You may be wondering why we have placed a few 'tickers' or mileage calculators on our blog? Dave and I decided to challenge each other to a 100 Mile Challenge for the month of February! Actually, both of us have been talking about the busyness of our schedule and how we would like to be more intentional in working toward some health and fitness goals. We decided to start our re-focus with exercise in the month of February, and are challenging each other to complete 100 miles by the end of February.
My desire is to complete our local marathon again this year, but to complete it in less time. As some of you know, a good friend, Brooke, and I entered and walked a local marathon this past November. We had a great time, although the race was grueling! I am looking to walk/jog again. In the meantime, I am looking to set some reasonable goals as training for that walk.
Additionally, I am looking forward to getting back to my pre-college, athletic weight! Since being diagnosed with PCOS, my doctor had advised following a 'diabetic' diet as it would keep a good balance between carbs and proteins, a factor very helpful for PCOS patients in maintaining healthy a weight. While I am not a diabetic, I have seen that these guidelines are helpful for me and have already contributed to a weight loss of 24 lbs. (okay, the holidays brought a re-gain of 4 of those!)
So, I am recommitting myself to these eating principles...a better balance of carbs and proteins, increased water consumption, no sugar drinks, smaller portions, and more small meals/snacks as opposed to 2-3 larger ones. I am also getting back to riding my bike back and forth to work rather than driving. I actually miss these rides and look forward to the time in nature on the 'green belt' loop here in our city.
In the meantime, we have no new adoption news. This weekend was semi-productive in working on some tasks around the house. We cleared part of the baby's room and worked on completing trim work and applying some decorations to the walls.

Hi Sheila!
Looks like you made a dent in the "silver lining" list!
We have also set some fitness goals for ourselves over here. Mark and I have completed a couple of triathlons and marathons with Team In Training. Mark is a cancer survivor (Hodgin's Disease) for 12 years...yeah! So Team In Training hits very close to home. We like to do a triathlon in April on the Big Island in Hawaii but we didn't do it this year because of the adoption. Well, we had gotten off track from working out like we had been when we were "training," so 3 weeks ago we all started to work out. My Mom and I go to a "boot camp" at 5:30 am, 3 days a week. I feel so full of energy on the days I work out. It has been really nice!
We are all getting healthy and ready to run around after a little one!
Keep it up, on your training! You will for sure get over 100 miles! The bike ride to work sounds like a great way to add on those miles!
How neat! I was just talking with someone at work about trying to walk and get so many miles in this month...
I started today with Walk Away the Pounds. I put in 2 miles. I thought, I wonder if I could put in at least 50 miles this month, that is less than 2 a day...I am going to try it anyway...but how in the world are you gonna get 100 in?????????? You go girl! I wish we had marathons like that around here. I'd walk with ya...
Hey, Sheila! I hope you don't mind if I post something similar to my blog...how about a 50-mile challenge? Love your idea...I put a post about National heart month on my blog, but I love the ticker idea. My husband laughed at me when I suggested that I was going to try to put in 50 miles this month! He needs to be walking with me! anyways, my sister died at 32 November 2006, so this is something real important to me. Thanks for this post! Go red!

Go BIG David!!! 11 miles!!! I just clocked one more this morning, putting me in the grand total of #3! That 50 mile mark is looking farther and farther away than at first! Wow...I just need to remind myself of the famous choo-choo train that once said, "I can do it; I can do it! I can do it!"
Happy Thursday!
Looking forward to enjoying your company on our next marathon! :)
