Small Tastes Of What Is To Come...

After receiving some more travel information on Monday from Julie, we have been taking some time to explore Pereira and the surrounding region by web...and oh what an absolutely beautiful area it is! We couldn't imagine a more stunning place to be setting our sights to visiting while getting acquainted with our son!!!! So, here is a little taste of what Pereira holds:

The bed and breakfast we may very well be staying at for 2-3 weeks:

EL CORTIJO (THE FARMHOUSE)

Boarding house boutique in the central zone of the city, with double and simple rooms, services of laundry, internet, interpreters, and a soft drink bar. Enjoy easy access to shopping centers, personalized attention and relaxation to your measure. The Poplars Neighborhood, Pereira, Colombia.

Here is a link with additional photos for anyone interested:

Nearby Thermal Springs and Waterfall (Santa Rosa de Cabal)

Oh yeah, apparently Santa Rosa is a famous local hang-out and tourist attraction!

The Megabus (posted for family and friends wandering just how 'safe' our travels will be.)

The Highway System (Another shot posted for family and friends who have heard crazy Colombian travel stories!)

Viaduct César Gaviria Trujillo (a famous free-standing bridge in Pereira)

Parque Los Nevados, Risaralda, Colombia (If you remember, Risaralda is the department that Pereira is located in. Parque Los Nevados literally means, "The Snow-Covered Park...while I don't know that we will do much travel in this area, it is beautiful to look at.)

More Parque Los Nevados

Northern Pereira

Well, we could post many more pictures, but will save the space for our own photos soon to come! Just as a general question for all of our blog stalking buds who happen to read this entry and want to offer some of their own travel wisdom and tips...especially if you have traveled with a toddler or young children...what would you say were items you wouldn't leave home without? additionally, what would you never consider taking...waste of space items? And, third, what were helpful things that you took to bide the time during the flight and layover on the travel home?

Oh my goodness! This looks gorgeous! You go girl...and enjoy yourself! Yeah! The B & B doesn't look to shabby either! Nice!

One thing I would not leave without: a blow-up beach ball...you can probably get different sizes now (summertime) that would be suitable for a toddler. I didn't have an infant, but I definitely would take one of those cool backpack things you carry babies in for when you guys leave the B&B. Lots of wipes!

(Sorry, I'm not much help!) Can't wait for you to get their...will be stalking the blog for details! Dios te Bendiga! (I stole that phrase from Jenn M.!)

Wow! That B&B is wonderful! Julie keeps mentioning a resort close by....I wonder were that is. She says that we should consider going to the resort to hang out with you guys. I figure we will have plenty of time to meet and hang out!

Obviously we haven't gone yet but some of the things people have told me to take include: Tylenol, Neosporin, Band-aids, Benadryl, Immodium, bubbles, kid sunglasses, small punchballs to blow up once you get there, wash cloths (as many place have towels but no wash cloths), Tide-to-go pen. Hope this helps! It is getting SOOO close!

I second the blow up beach ball.

Remember toys and clothes in Colombia are expensive, so it is better to get those things here in the US.

Also remember that while Pereira is warm - you will eventually end up freezing in rainy Bogota, so don't forget to bring warm clothes for you and your boy while in Bogota.

I would NOT worry about the bringing any over the counter medicines -- they are heavy and can easily be bought at a farmacia. Dolex is the Colombian Tylenol. Just ask for the medicines by name: diphenhydramina (benadryl), ibuprofeno (motrin), etc. They even have children's versions of these medications.
